Ilja Kukuj is a coordinator for Russian Language Studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He studied Russian and Comparative Literature and Slavic Studies in St. Petersburg (Russia) and Bielefeld (Germany), his PhD thesis “The Concept of veshch‘ [thing] in the Russian Avant-Garde” (München, 2010) was awarded David Burliuk Prize. Kukuj is the author of numerous publications on Russian Avant-Garde, Soviet unofficial culture and cinema and the editor of several volumes on Soviet underground poetry including Leonid Aronzon, Oleg Prokofiev, Anri Volokhonsky, Pavel Zal’tsman, and many others. Kukuj is co-editor of Wiener Slawistischer Almanach and the member of Editorial Board of The Project for the Study of Dissidence and Samizdat (Toronto). 2022 he was awarded Andrei Bely Prize for his services to Russian literature.
