CV

Anna Shibarova is lecturer for Russian language, cultural and translation studies at the University of Munich. Born in Leningrad, she graduated from the University of Tartu (Estonia) with a degree in Russian language and literature. She worked as translator and culture manager at the Goethe-Institute St. Petersburg until she moved to Germany 2001. Here she began to work as a literary translator. She has translated into Russian works by H.-U. Treichel, E. Canetti, H. Arendt, W. Hilbig and J. Roth, as well as children's writers M. Kruse and J. Krüss. In 2006, she received the Žukovskij Award for the best young translator. In collaboration with colleagues, she has launched several cultural projects such as a Russian-German workshop for literary translators, and co-authored Spurwechsel, a documentary film about translation. Since she works at the Institute of Slavic Studies (University of Munich) she has published textbooks on Russian as foreign language and initiated the learning platform Into Russian. She also regularly conducts education workshops for teachers. In 2023, she coauthored Works and Days, a series of biographical films about German literary translators.
